| The original Town of Yuba City was purchased from John Sutter by Sam Brannan and quickly became an agricultural service center. |
| 1849 | John Sutter deeded to himself, Pierson B Reading, Samuel Brannan and Henry Cheever the land for a new town. In the same month, Brannan, Reading and Cheever laid out what would become the Town, and later, City of Yuba City.  John Sutter |
| 1854 | Yuba City was the county seat for Sutter County for a few months. In the same year, voters decided that Nicolaus was a better location for the county seat. |
| 1856 | County voters vote to return the county seat to Yuba City. Yuba City has remained the county seat since 1856. |
| 1907 | October 2, 1907. Fire destroyed most of Yuba City’s business district in the area of Second St. and Bridge St. Efforts begin to incorporate the town as a city under the general law of California.

| 1908 | January 23, 1908. Date of the local election of incorporation. The voters vote in favor of incorporating the town of Yuba City.
January 27, 1908. J.W. Ashley is appointed as the first mayor of Yuba City.

March 10, 1908. Town Council appointed a scavenger (garbage collector) to serve the residents of Yuba City. His name was Johnston and for his services and the use of his horse and cart, he received $3.50 per day in compensation. Garbage was picked up five days a week, except Saturday and Sunday.
Police Department formed and consisted of an elected marshal and one night watchman. As the town grew, another night watchman joined the force. The night watchmen were stationed at opposite ends of the town.

Town Council hired a group of men and organized them into a crew to construct and repair streets, walks, curbs, gutters and drainage.
Town Council establishes an animal control program providing for an animal pound and a pound master. The first pound master was Mr. Arsdale.

| 1909 | May 17, 1909. The town council takes action to purchase two nozzles, five hundred feet of hose, and two hose carts to make up the Yuba City Fire Department. The City Council appointed a Fire Chief in charge of the volunteer squad. Someone donated an old barn to be used for a firehouse, and so began the Yuba City Fire Department. In the early days, fire fighting was limited as there was an absence of a municipal water system. |
| 1910 | February, 1910. Town begins construction work on its municipal water system. The system would supply water for household use, irrigation purposes and fire protection. |
| 1921 | Yuba City and Sutter County form a Chamber of Commerce. |
| 1922 | A public sanitary sewer system is installed. |
| 1928 | City Council appoints a part-time Police Chief. |
| 1936 | The City of Yuba City creates a franchise with P.G.& E. for gas. |
| 1940 | City Council appoints Lewis Duncan as it’s first full-time Police Chief to head a force of five officers.

| 1951 | City Council creates a position of City Administrator and hires the first personnel officer. |
| 1955 | December 24, 1955. A levee break occurs in the Feather River in South Yuba City causing the entire area to flood. Coroner B.W. Ullrey reports that 38 victims are discovered.

| 1956 | The first full-time Public Works Director / City Engineer is hired. |
| 1959 | The Department of Public Works is formed. |
| 1962 | As described by the Annual Report, the economy is based on Agriculture, Food Processing, Beale Air Force Base and other Defense Operations. |
| 1970 | Marysville and Yuba City Chambers of Commerce merge to form one cohesive business. |
| 1983 | Money Magazine announces that Yuba City was voted the “worst” metropolitan area in the United States to live. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania was voted the best. |
| 1986 | Yuba River levee breaks and floods near the town of Linda. Damages produce up to $500 million in claims. |
| 1995 | January 10, 1995. A funnel cloud, possibly a tornado, rips through Yuba City and collapses the roof of the YMCA building. |
| 1997 | Yuba City embraces for a possible levee break over the New Year Holiday. The levee breaks on the other side of the river in Yuba County near Arboga Rd.
The Department of Utilities was formed out of the Public Works Department to operate the City’s water treatment plant, wastewater treatment plants, domestic groundwater system, and water and sewer distribution network.

| 2004 | July, 2004. The City Council formally dedicates Regency Park, a 7-acre neighborhood park located in Northern Yuba City off of Stabler Lane.

| 2007 | October 6th, 2007. The new Gauche Aquatics Park is dedicated and opens to the public.
