BURN PERMIT CONDITIONS
SUTTER COUNTY
AGRICULTURAL BURNING

AGRICULTURAL BURN HOURS:

Trees, prunings, and stumps: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. All fires shall be completely out by 5 p.m.
Field crops, grass, ditches, and weeds: March 1–Aug. 31 — 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fire out by 5 p.m.

Sept. 1–Feb. 28/29 — 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fire out by 4 p.m.

YOU ARE REQUIRED TO LOG THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION WITH THIS OFFICE:

IT IS ILLEGAL TO BURN: (partial list only)

· Wood waste including construction debris, lumber, plywood, wood shingles, fencing, and/or other treated or processed woods.

· String, rope, bindings

· Household garbage

· Metal salvage

· Tires

· Dead animals

· Cardboard

· Tar paper

· Green grass or green brush

· Plastic

· Animal wastes

· Paper

A violation of District rules and regulations is a misdemeanor subject to civil and criminal penalties.  If the burn area is within close proximity to a sensitive area such as a school or residential area, burn only when the wind is blowing away from the sensitive area.

Your local fire department must be notified prior to each burn. Burning in the high fire hazard area of the Sutter Buttes is prohibited from June 1 thru Nov. 1 except by special permission from the fire department.

ORCHARD WASTE BURNING:

-Arrange burn pile as to allow air to circulate freely. Stack loosely. Avoid pushing dirt into the pile.

-There is a 30-day minimum drying period required after the orchard removal, as well as an inspection before burning.

FIELD CROP BURNING:

This office will allocate all field crop burning. Field crops will be placed on the ready-to-burn list upon completion of harvest. Permission to burn will be determined by favorable burn conditions, location of field in proximity to residences and schools, and place on the burn list.
