Audubon Society Bobelaine Ecological Reserve
12 miles south of Yuba City, one mile from Highway 99 on Laurel Avenue.
(916) 783-8305. Open daily during daylight hours. Picnic area and information kiosk. No hunting or fishing. Five miles of hiking trails. Riparian forest along Feather River. Herons, egrets, mallards, hawks and owls await wildlife photographers and artists.

Gray Lodge State Wildlife Refuge
12 miles west of Live Oak. (530) 846-7505 or (916) 358-2900 for tours or information. Attracts millions of birds annually, especially waterfowl migrating along the Pacific Flyway. Fall and winter are best times to view. 8,400 acre refuge has scheduled tours on weekends. Group tours by reservation. Auto tours. Limited fishing. Wildlife viewing platforms with telescope. Restrooms, parking lots and information kiosks.

Spenceville State Wildlife Refuge
19 miles east of Marysville on Hammonton-Smartsville Road off Highway 20. (530) 538-2236. 11,213 acres with a shooting range, archery range, great turkey hunting and trails for hiking, horseback riding, and cycling. Shingle Falls, or "Beale Falls", offers a challenging one-hour hike. The wildflowers and the falls are spectacular in the spring. Summer turns the deep pool at the foot of the falls into a popular swimming hole. Year round day use. Camping in designated areas from September 1 to March 15.

Sutter Buttes
The Sutter Buttes were formed 1.5 million years ago. The highest point is 2,132 feet above sea level. The Buttes played an important part in the lives of the Maidu Indians, who lived in villages within sight of the Buttes. The Maidu called them Histum Yani, the Spirit Mountain, and believed that their spirits went there after death. Scenic drive markers direct motorists around the exterior of the Sutter Buttes. The Buttes are privately owned and there is no public access to the interior. Guided walking tours are available through several naturalist organizations.

Sutter Wildlife Reserve
Six miles southwest of Yuba City on Oswald Road off Highway 99. (530) 934-2801. 2,591 acres. Hunters need permits or reservations during waterfowl season. No auto tours, blinds or viewing stations.
