Utilities Division: Solar Project

Solar

In December 2007 the Wastewater Treatment Facility became energized with power from new solar arrays. The solar arrays are constructed on piers in a City owned storm water detention basin.

The solar array is the second alternative energy source utilized by the Wastewater Treatment Facility. The facility also utilizes methane fueled micro-turbines.

It is estimated that during the first 30 years of operation the facility will eliminate emissions equivalent to automobiles driving 23 million miles. The solar arrays will produce an average of 1.3kWH per year which is the equivalent to the demand of 750 homes during daylight hours.
